Love in lockdown: Southampton speed dating firm goes virtual as bars remain closed

A Southhampton entrepreneur is taking his speed dating events company online, saving 75 jobs.

With all bars and restaurants closed indefinitely, it looked like the end for Slow Dating, a speed dating event company that relies on bars to host events.

It also meant an uncertain future for all the people it employs. Not wanting to lose his business, single father of two Chris Grayston has decided to take his live events company online.

Chris, the entrepreneur behind music events including talent search Open Mic UK, told the Daily Echo: "We have to try something new, as if the bars are going to be shut that will cripple us as a business, not to have any events for two or more months and thus end the company, which has been running successfully for 15 years.”

“Also, I thought this is going to be a very isolating and lonely time for people if they are unable to go out and socialise. There must be a way to keep things running safely and as normal as possible.”
